Retail industry posts record mobile sales
It’s no secret that the face of the business world is changing. The development of highly sophisticated technology has allowed businesses of all kinds to utilize new tools and practices for reaching their goals. The retail industry is no exception. With the advent of smart phones and mobile tablets, the world of online sales can now extend to applications designed for mobile devices of all kinds. Recent reports show that mobile sales are higher than ever and are expected to continue growing in the coming year. eMarketer reports:
“Last year, eMarketer estimates, US retail mcommerce sales shot up 81% to nearly $25 billion. This year, a further increase of 55.7% in sales is expected, and mobile sales will account for 15% of all retail ecommerce. Mcommerce sales include all purchases made via smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices, excluding sales of travel and event tickets.”
The mobile commerce market – mcommerce, as it is called – has grown substantially for a variety of reasons. The first and foremost, as noted, is the rise in popularity and availability of capable mobile devices. Smart phones and tablets are quickly becoming staples of the modern world, and users are more and more finding that they can leverage these tools to accomplish things in a more efficient manner.
It’s also important to note that retail professionals themselves have something to do witht he growth. Offering your customers mobile sites or apps allows them to make mobile purchases much easier, and it shows the company’s vested interest in expanding business to this particular field.
We are excited to see the growth of the retail industry as new technology becomes more prevalent in society. Where do you think retail will go next?
